But the bridge suddenly buckled and collapsed, hurling scores of men, women, and children into the river. On that tragic day, 44 people died, the worst calamity ever to strike Dixon.Tom Wadsworth of Dixon, a professional speaker whose great-great-great grandmother drowned on that day, will give a 45-minute pictorial presentation of the disaster, how it happened, and the many lives that were lost on Dixon’s Darkest Day.
