The Rock River Valley Shamrock Club will present the St. Patrick's Day Parade and post party. This year's parade and post party will be held on March 11. We kick off the parade at 3 p.m. and make our way through downtown Dixon, concluding at the Knights of Columbus Hall where the party of all parties will be held. If you have had the privilege of witnessing or taking part in these two outstanding events, I do not need to say more. If you have not, this is your chance to take part in a memorable event. Here is everything you need to know.

The parade will start at 3 p.m. in front of Dixon High School. If you want to be in the parade, the contact number is below. The St. Patrick's Day post parade party, once again, is held at the conclusion of the parade at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Dixon. To enter the party, all we ask is a monetary donation at the door or canned food I goods to be donated to the food pantry.

The Knights are again offering an outstanding corned beef and cabbage meal for a small price. We are blessed with, the Irish band, the Gleasons from Milwaukee. We also will have our ever-growing 50/50 raffle, gift basket, and silent auction. If you have a lick of sense, you will not want to miss the celebration on March 11. Shades of Gray Art Exhibition - Reception/Awards (6:00 pm - 8:00 pm)

“SHADES OF GRAY ART EXHIBITION RETURNS”

Dates: March 4 - 31, 2017

Dixon: We live in a full color world.  Whether TV, books, newspapers, computers or even our smart phones, color is everywhere. But before color images, black and white reigned for years. So let’s get back to black & white!

The Next Picture Show is pleased to present the “Shades of Gray Black &White Photography Art Exhibition” an exhibition of art that will highlight local and regional photographers still exploring and producing work in black and white.

More than 60 original works of art, by 22 artists, have been accepted representing both film & digital photography.  Shown (jpegs attached) are three entries in the exhibition. Artist Gary Pearson (“Backroads North Carolina”) of Leaf River; Joseph Fenwick (“Forlorn”) from Amboy; and Jon Wildman (“Nocturnal Conduit”) of Dixon.

In conjunction with Shades of Gray, TNPS will also showcase a special exhibition of the WWII Green River Ordnance Plant.  The vintage official government photographs will be on display showing construction of buildings, the fire crew, assembly line workers and more.  A photo (jpeg) of the cafeteria at the Green River Ordnance Plant is included.

Both exhibits will kick off with a reception and awards presentation on Saturday March 11 from 6:00pm-8:00 pm featuring music by Al & Jeannie Brown and a pointillism art demonstration by local award winning artist Kate Askegaard.  Sauk Valley Community College Associate Art Professor Glenn Bodish will serve as awards judge.

The exhibition is sponsored by Hicks Insurance Agency, 815-288-1523. www.hicksinsurance.biz.  Our thanks to Rick Munson, as well, for providing the Ordnance Plant photographs.

The exhibit will continue from March 4 - 31 at 113 West First Street, Dixon, IL 61021.  Hours are TuesdaySaturday 10:00am to 4:00pm and by appointment.
